1. An introduction: Definition and meaning of 'codicology', 'palaeography' and 'textual criticism'.
2. The history of the book in Greece and Rome: the evolution of materials (papyrus, parchment and paper) and formats (volumen and codex).
3. Greek palaeography.
4. Latin palaeography.
5. The principles of textual criticism.
6. Some editorial principles.
